I think the core that often gets missed is that networking really is (or should be) centered around making genuine connections with people.
That’s where one of the biggest issues lies bc as a society that is continuing to get more socially awkward everyday, we really don’t want to talk to people unless we A - like them and B - are getting something out of it.
So therefore you end up with networking events that revolve around only talking to people to pitch them something or to see what you can get out of them!
I’m sure that’s not everybody, but chances are if you’re watching this you'd like to improve your networking skills so you can use networking as a tool. But let’s just keep in mind that the networking is the tool, and it’s not going to turn us into a tool.
